Module 7 Learning Journal

 During this module I have learned more about the importance of sleep, and the different ways in which injuries can happen through accidents and intentional violence. I find I related most to chapter four, though I found chapter 15 more interesting. Throughout high school I always had a hard time sleeping which caused me some problems in class, I found it very hard to concentrate without enough sleep with made my grades suffer. I don't have those sleep problems much anymore though I do have about one day a month where I find I cannot sleep even if I have been up all day. Through the discussions I found that most of my classmates have difficult times sleeping and even finding the time to sleep. Many people stated that they only got what was considered to be "short sleep" where I usually sleep the recommended 7-9 hours. Module 5 Learning Journal

     During this module I have learned more about how different foods are classified and how much we need of those foods, the standard amount of physical activity needed and different types of activities to do, and the obesity epidemic and where I fall on the BMI scale. I find that I related to chapter 6 the most because I have been trying to get more physically active for years now but I have not really known how to do that or what types of activities would be beneficial to me.  The discussion in this module helped a lot in understanding other peoples' views on how to be healthy. There were many discussions that questioned whether you could choose either having a good diet or being physically active instead of having a combination of both. The textbook clearly described that eating right and exercising are two aspects of a healthy lifestyle that work hand in hand. Module 1 Learning Journal

  During this first module I have learned a lot about how we define health, how your self-esteem can affect our daily life, and some ways to reduce our daily stress. I never knew about the 7 dimensions of health, and how some things we consider daily necessities are actually detrimental to our health and wellness.   As a college student I find myself under a lot of stress concerning when my assignments are due, and how long it takes to go through all of the reading and studying I have to do for each course. Right now I am still getting used to my new schedule but I am finding better ways to manage my time and my stress. Some things I have found that really help me are: Breathing exercises - if I find myself getting frustrated or over-worrying about a simple task I will sit down and take a break and just breathe.  Physical activity - many times while studying I find it hard to focus, I restart by taking breaks from studying to stretch and walk around the house.
